5 Of The Best Beaches In Greece You Should Sail To This Season

Best Beaches In Greece. Greece has over 13,676km (8,498miles) of coastline making it the 11th longest coastline in the world. This coastline brings with it over 486 beaches which have been awarded Blue Flag for environmental management and high water quality, and an abundance of islands, 227 of which are inhabited. These beaches are all beautiful and it has been near impossible to pick just 5 for this blog post. These five are a snippet of the best beaches in Greece.

Paradise. Greece is considered by many as ‘paradise’ with consistent trade winds, sunshine, and blue sky. Greece has something for everyone with the Aegean Sea (experienced sailors), Saronic Gulf, Sporades Islands, and the Ionian Sea have milder winds and safer bays, which are ideal for less confident sailors.

1) Shipwreck Beach, Zakynthos

Zakynthos. Best known for its thriving party culture Zakynthos is much more than just a party island. With the major bars and clubs confined to one street and area of the island., the rest of the island is home to beautiful bays, turquoise waters, caves, and Navagio Bay. Otherwise known as Shipwreck Bay, Navagio Bay is one of those places you have to see to believe. With its perfectly turquoise waters, white sandy beach, and even a rusty shipwreck. The only way to reach the beach is by boat, although there is a viewing platform from above.

Avoid The Crowds. The beach is very popular with day boat trips or tours, so the best time to visit is in the morning or evening. The white sand is a contrast from the volcanic rock which covers the majority of the rest of the island. Despite the crowds, Navagio Bay is one of the best beaches in Greece.

2) Kolymbithres, Paros

Paros. The island of Paros is more uncommercialised than it’s Cyclades neighbours. With small quaint villages and towns filled with the islands famous white marble, picturesque buildings, narrow streets and colourful buildings. Paros is an island Greece forgot, a piece of natural paradise in the middle of the Cyclades

Kolymbithres. Kolymbithres Beach is a beautiful beach surrounded by white granite rocks and cliffs, as well as coves to explore, making it one of the best beaches in Greece. White rocks cover the beach in formations created over time by the ocean and wind. The beach has a small number of taverns to stop and when you anchor offshore and enjoy the calm waters, which are perfect for one of the best beaches in Greece.

3) Elafonisi, Crete

Pink Sand. Elafonsis in Crete is one of the most unusual beaches on our best beaches in Greece list, the main reason for this is its pink sand. The beach is a protected nature reserve, with the pinkish colour coming from the crushed shells which have congregated over time. The water is shallow within the lagoon creating a great place for paddling and for families to enjoy.

4) Simos, Elafonisos

Megalos Simos And Mikros Simos. These two connected beaches in the Aegean Sea are referred to as one of the best beaches in Greece, thanks to the white sandy beaches backed by turquoise waters. Both beaches are connected in the middle creating an ‘X’ shape, with sand in between.

Off Season. During the high season, the beaches can become crowded, so visit early in the day to avoid the crowds or in low season. The tropical beaches resemble the Caribbean with white sand and clear waters, ideal for swimming or snorkelling, which are just some of the things which make these two beaches some of the best beaches in Greece.

5) Kapari, Mykonos

Kapari Beach. Mykonos is filled with lovely beaches but many of them are filled with pay per day sunbeds and tourist traps. Kapari is located close to Mykonos town and has so far escaped the commercialisation. The white sand and turquoise waters are a great picturesque landscape to relax.

Calm Environment. Kapari Beach is one of the best beaches in Greece thanks to its relaxingly calm water and the cove offers a great place to drop anchor. Kapari Beach is a stretch of beach with white sand and is a great place to watch the sunset with a cocktail.
