Weather. French Polynesia has an average temperature of between 31-24c making it one of the best places to go sailing in March. The water still has a typical temperature of 28c. The leeward islands are home to prevailing winds coming from the east at a speed of between 15-20 knots and up to 25 knots. The ocean can be choppy with waves from 3 to 5ft.

2. St Maarten

St Martin/St Maarten. St Martin is a place of sunshine and serenity, mountains and beaches, surrounded by turquoise waters and hidden coves, where you must take advantage of the yachts and sailboats to truly absorb all that this amazing island has to offer. During the month of March, many regattas take place during the month which is great to participate in or watch.

Weather. Thailand is an excellent year-round sailing destination with the year split into two seasons – wet and dry season or SW and NE monsoon seasons.

It is one of the best places to go sailing in March as it is in the northeast monsoon season (November – April), with winds typically between 10 and 20 knots in a northeast direction. This is considered the dry season with dry and sunny conditions and average temperatures remaining between 34 – 24c (93-75f).

Thailand. Thailand is one of the best places to go sailing in March with some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, on islands waiting to be explored with tropical rainforests, world-class marinas, famous bays, and thriving resort towns.

5. Malaysia

Malaysia is a great place to go sailing in March due to its stabilised weather system and warm weather conditions. The Northeast Monsoon season runs from November to May, and it brings light northeasterly winds ranging from 10-20 knots along with cooler dryer temperatures. The average high-temperature of 33c (91f) and an average low of 23c (73f).

6. BVI

Spring Sun. A great spring sun sailing destination. March is a great time to take a yacht charter in the BVI as there are fewer people visiting the islands, it is a little busier than other times due to America’s spring break season but it shouldn’t be crowded.  The BVI is one of the best places to go sailing in March.

Weather In March. The BVI’s weather makes it one of the best places to go sailing in March. The average high for the month is 83f (28c) and the average low is 75f (24c), although rainfall can occur it is rare at this time of year.  The wind tends to be stable between 15 – 25 knots in an easterly direction, which varies from a southeast direction in the summer months.

Uncrowded. The peak sailing time in the BVI is between December and April, with private boats venturing from the Mediterranean across the ocean, bring more boats and tourists to the area.

By March many of these boats have had their high season with a small number being busy for spring break. But it is not as crowded as during the winter months. Spring is a great time to go sailing in the BVI with regattas and sailing races happening and consistent winds.

7. St Lucia

St Lucia. St Lucia is one of the best places to go sailing in March with Spanish, French, and British influences, St. Lucia has a beautiful blend of cultures. This means that in St. Lucia you’ll find cricket tournaments, Caribbean style curry dishes, as well as Calypso, Socal, Reggae, Compas, Zouk, and Salsa music.

The wind conditions in February range from 10 to 25 knots in an easterly direction, with very little rain. On a St Lucia sailing itinerary, there are long periods of sailing making it a great for experienced sailors or those on a skippered charters.

8. Seychelles

Seychelles. Proclaimed “the most beautiful islands on Earth”, Seychelles take you to an entirely different unique world. Immerse yourself in nature and take in the special landscape of this archipelago.

Home to 275 species of birds, 2,200 giant Aldabra tortoises, and many endemic species, Seychelles claims a unique ecosystem. Located 1,000 miles off the east coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean, Seychelles is a collection of 115 islands, many of which are coral islands.

Wind and Weather Conditions. When sailing in March in Seychelles the average high is 84f (29c) and an average low of 77f (25c) during the month. The winds blow frequently in a northeasterly direction at approximately 4 knots and there is a tidal system which varies by 4.5ft or 5.9ft (1.4m or 1.8m).

Places to Visit. When sailing in March in Seychelles there is an abundance of tropical forests, white-sandy beaches, and coral reefs to explore throughout the islands. Some places not to be missed when sailing in March in Seychelles are the following;

9. Grenada

Weather. Grenada is the ideal location to go sailing in March, with an average temperature between 29c (84f) and 24c (76f). In March winds have stabilised and settled in a northeasterly direction ranging from 10 – 25 knots. March is the third month of the dry season which runs until May, so rain is less likely during March.

Grenada. With beautiful mountains, unique fauna and flora, lakes, and an abundance of wildlife, Grenada has something for everyone. In addition to its deep colonial history, Grenada is an island of volcanic origin.

This gives it a wonderfully interesting landscape of rocky coastline and beaches set against bright green foliage and rich vegetation. Coupled with the amazing scenery, the island is home to armadillos, mona monkeys, and mockingbirds. The marine life is also present in abundance, Grenada’s waters are full of colourful coral reefs, seagrass beds – making it ideal for snorkelling and sailing in March.

10. Bahamas

Weather In March. The Bahamas is one of the best places to go sailing in March with an average high of 79f (26c) and an average low of 66f (19c). The water stays at a comfortable 76f (24c) and wind conditions stabilise, gentle, trade winds of between 5 -20 knots, which are usually blowing from the east.
