    Goli Otok is a barren, uninhabited island in the northern Adriatic Sea. In 1949, the island was repurposed as a high-security prison and labour camp by the authorities of the People’s Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, together with the nearby Sveti Grgur island, which held a similar camp for female prisoners. The prison operated until 1989, earning a reputation as the “Croatian Alcatraz” due to its strict security measures. Getting There

The best way to reach Kvarner is to fly into Rijeka International Airport near Omisalj on Krk Island. Travelling through Zagreb is an easy alternative if you cannot fly into Krk directly. From Zagreb, it is about a 40-minute flight to Rijeka. Another great option would be to fly into Zagreb, Split, Pula, or Sibenik and take a bus to Krk. Weather

The best sailing weather for the Kvarner Sailing Itinerary is during the peak season of May to September, with the average high in May being 19°C and an average high in September of 26°C. July and August are the best for swimming as water temperatures will reach 25°C.
