UK Yacht Charter Industry Braces for a Surge as the Number One Destination Looks to Open Borders to the British
Croatia’s coast is popular with sailors. Its dozens of magnificent islands range from tiny, verdant and unpopulated to massive, arid and bustling and charters clamour to their ancient towns and villages. Yacht charter has become big business in Croatia with sailors island hopping as the best way to explore Croatia. Over time Croatia has emerged as the number one yacht charter destination in the world.
Croatia began opening its borders on the 29th May to Slovak, Czech, Hungarian and Austrian citizens. Since then other countries have been added. Yet the UK had announced a 14-day quarantine for travellers returning from abroad that starts on 8 June 2020 and it remained uncertain what would happen to UK tourists.

Croatian Minister Quoted as Saying British Welcome
According to Croatian News Website TCN, the UK is working on an Air Bridge with the world’s number one sailing destination. Following a conversation with the Croatian Minister for tourism, Simon Calder, has said:
โBritish Tourists are welcome as long as they have booked accommodation, and [they] are negotiating with UK government to launch an airbridge between Croatia and UK which would mean on return to UK there would be no need to isolate for 14 days.โ
The message that the British Are Welcome In Croatia will come as a great relief to both the travel industry and sailors with itchy feet.
It is also great news for sailors who have booked charters or are looking to sail this year.ย
We caution that this does all need to be confirmed and until an announcement is made, travellers should remain cautious.
Yet it looks highly likely many who thought they would not get out on the water this year, may well be in a great position to do so after all.
Agencies like Sailchecker have seen a surge in bookings as confidence builds. Customers have been clamouring to secure unprecedented discount prices before they are restored with a potential rise as operators seek to recover losses. We take a look at the extra special offers due to the pandemic that may well end soon.
