Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Quiz · Collision regulations

You are nearing a bend in a channel where the bank hides anything coming the other way. What sound signal does Rule 34 require?

Seen from above: a river channel between high wooded banks that turns sharply to the right. A yacht marked you is coming up to the bend. Round the corner, hidden from her by the trees, a larger vessel is coming the other way.

One prolonged blast. A vessel nearing a bend, or a stretch of channel where other vessels may be hidden, sounds one prolonged blast. Any approaching vessel that hears it from round the bend answers with a prolonged blast of her own. Keep as near to the starboard side of the channel as is safe and practicable as you go round.
