Back steadily: for example south-east, then east, then north-east. Wind blows anticlockwise round a northern hemisphere low. If the centre passes south of you, you stay on its northern side and the wind backs steadily, from south-east through east to north-east and north, with no fronts to mark the change. If the centre passes north of you, the wind veers at each front instead.
