Lying hove to. Heaving to balances the backed jib, which pushes the bow away from the wind, against the mainsail and rudder, which turn her back towards it. She lies quietly with the wind forward of the beam, making a little headway and a lot of leeway, so check you have sea room to leeward. It is a good way to rest, reef, or ride out a blow.
