Night. A hand-held flare burning with a red light.
Night. A hand-held flare burning with a red light.
Show the answer

A red hand-held flare: it says you are in distress, and shows rescuers nearby exactly where you are. Red means distress. A red hand-held flare tells everyone you need help, and because it burns close to the water it shows rescuers who are nearby exactly where you are. A white flare is not a distress signal: it only warns a ship that may not have seen you.
