About this yacht
The new Fountaine Pajot Isla 40 is the exclusive entry-level model that iconvinces all along the line sailing on the Balearic Islands and at anchor in the most beautiful bays as well as at mooring.
Our charter boat Isla 40 for charter from/to Palma de Mallorca comes in the Quatuor 2 version with comfortable 4 double cabins and 2 bathrooms with separate shower and extended forepeak cabin. This sailing catamaran thus offers space for up to 8+1 charter guests.

The Isla 40 features impressive sailing performance, a remarkable innovative design, and light-filled interiors. You also rent an Oceanis version with many pleasant and useful extras for your unforgettable sailing holiday.

The helm station has a second radio with AIS in addition to all instrument displays. Bimini and cake shack protect the driver from sun and wind. The driver's station is halfway between the flybridge and the cockpit. This allows for a good overview of the boat and good communication with the rest of your fellow sailors.

The cockpit, equipped with teak and gas barbecue, invites you to linger. Here, close to the kitchen, is the ideal place to feast or simply enjoy the views of Mallorca's, Ibiza's, Formentera's or Menorca's beautiful bays. The sun lounger in the foredeck is ideal for sun worshippers and those who like the wind blowing around their noses.

Extra equipment: Oceanic version, teak in cockpit, second VHF with AIS at the helm, electric toilets, 12 V fans, solar panels, gas grill, second refrigerator, gas oven, bimini for helm, dinghy on davids with electric winch and with 6hp outboard engine etc.

SailChecker Expert View

Ideal for families The Maloja suits groups of up to 8 seeking comfort and modern convenience on a compact catamaran. Four cabins with good sleeping capacity make it a natural choice for families or friends wanting private berths without booking a larger, pricier vessel.

Well-equipped modern cat This 2023 Isla 40 ticks the boxes: solar panels and inverter mean efficient power management, the autopilot and chart plotter reduce fatigue on longer passages, and the teak cockpit with cushions and bimini create a genuinely pleasant outdoor living space. The lazy jack system also makes sail handling easier, a genuine comfort feature on a catamaran.

Solid value proposition At this size and spec, you're getting a new build with thoughtful equipment that justifies the charter rate. The Mallorca base offers excellent accessibility for transatlantic and European flyers, with short airport transfers and reliable English-speaking support from Yates.

One realistic note: At 11.9 metres, this is still a relatively compact cruising cat, galley and cabin spaces are efficient rather than sprawling. If your group prioritizes maximum elbow room and resort-style comfort, stepping up to a 45+ footer might suit you better, though the Maloja performs beautifully for its size.

The marina & destination

Based at La Lonja Marina Charter, in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Maloja is operated by Yates Mallorca.

Muelle de la lonja

Why this is a great starting point

La Lonja Marina sits in Palma's working harbour, offering immediate access to the Balearic Islands' best cruising grounds; week one typically sees charters heading south to Cabrera National Park or northeast along the coast toward Andratx and Port d'Andratx, with reliable northwesterly winds making for straightforward sailing. The sheltered waters around Mallorca's southwest coast suit varied skill levels, while nearby islands like Dragonera and Illa Fogoneu break up longer passages and provide good anchorages. You can also reach Menorca within two days' sailing, opening a second-week option without repositioning.

Frequently asked questions
Can Maloja be rented with or without a skipper?
You can charter Maloja bareboat (you skipper) if you hold the relevant sailing licence, or hire a professional skipper alongside the yacht. The choice is yours when you request the quote.
What sailing licence do I need to charter Maloja?
Bareboat charter typically requires a recognised sailing licence (RYA Day Skipper, ICC, ASA, or equivalent) plus a VHF radio licence. The exact requirements depend on the country of charter — we confirm with the operator when you enquire.
What's included in the charter price?
The charter fee covers the yacht, standard equipment, and insurance for the dates booked. Tourist tax, transit log (final cleaning + bed linen), fuel, food, marina fees during the trip, and any optional extras (skipper, paddle board, etc.) are normally extra and paid at the base.
What additional costs should I expect at the base?
Typical mandatory extras are the transit log (often €200–€350), tourist tax (a small per-person-per-day fee), and a refundable security deposit (often €1,500–€5,000 depending on the yacht). Optional extras like a skipper, hostess, paddle board, or early check-in are listed on the quote.
How does the security deposit work?
The deposit is held by the operator at check-in (usually card pre-authorisation) and refunded after check-out if the yacht is returned without damage. Many operators offer a deposit-waiver insurance product that reduces the held amount in exchange for a smaller non-refundable premium.
Can I cancel my charter booking?
Cancellation terms vary by operator. Most allow cancellation with a full refund if requested more than 60–90 days before the start date, with progressive penalties closer to departure. Some operators offer a flexible-cancellation insurance product when you book.
Is the yacht insured?
Yes — every yacht is insured by the operator against damage and third-party liability. The insurance covers the yacht itself; personal effects and trip cancellation are not covered and are worth insuring separately.
What documents do I need to bring?
You'll need your passport, sailing licence (if chartering bareboat), VHF radio licence, and proof of payment. The operator will send a check-in form ahead of time covering crew details and any special requests.
What payment methods are accepted?
Charter fees are normally paid by bank transfer in advance (often a 50% deposit at booking, balance 30 days before charter). On-base extras are usually paid by card or in cash.
