What you'll pay

Charter pricing is famously opaque. Here's everything the operator will charge — mandatory items paid at the base, plus optional add-ons you can opt into.

Paid at the base (mandatory)

One-Way fee Keramoti-Volos / Volos-Keramoti (the possibility of one-way should be confirmed by the office)
€800 per rental mandatory
Damage waivier for reduced security deposit (up to 2 weeks monohulls 2018-2023)
The Damage Waiver reduces your financial liability in the event of damage to the yacht, loss or damage to ancillary equipment, or damage caused by a third party during your charter. Non-refundable: The Damage Waiver is not refundable under any circumstances. The refundable deposit covers any damage or loss over the damage waiver amount, and the customer's total financial liability will not exceed the amount of the damage waiver and the refundable deposit. Coverage: It covers any loss or accident involving the yacht, its equipment, or a third party, including all risks of damage or theft, whether due to negligence or malicious intent by the skipper or clients. Indemnification: It indemnifies all parties involved in all cases. Additional Weeks: For any additional week of the charter, an extra Damage Waiver charge will apply, amounting to half of the standard Damage Waiver cost. The payment of either the Refundable Security Deposit or the Damage Waiver applies solely to one major incident at a time. Suppose there is a loss or damage to high-value equipment (such as an outboard engine or dinghy, sails, mast). In that case, the Charterer has the right to a replacement or repair, on the condition that a new Refundable Security Deposit is paid promptly upon receiving the replacement or completion of the repair.

SailChecker Expert View

Ideal for families The Sun Odyssey 440 is a popular mid-size cruiser that suits families or small groups wanting comfortable sailing without excessive complexity. Four cabins sleeping up to 10 make it easy to share costs across multiple couples or a multigenerational crew.

Well-equipped modern boat This 2023 model comes generously spec'd with electric winches, autopilot, bow thruster, and solar panels—all genuine comfort features that reduce physical effort and extend your independence at anchor. The teak cockpit and bimini are nice touches for those long Mediterranean or Baltic cruising days, and the dinghy is included, which saves hire costs.

Strong value proposition At roughly €4,046 per week, you're paying mid-market rates for a brand-new, well-appointed boat with a low deposit (€600)—that's fair for what you get. NorthSailing is a reputable operator, though you'll want to confirm their base location, as that affects your flight connections and transfer time from international airports.

One realistic caveat Ten berths sounds roomy on paper, but a full crew of ten on a 13.4-metre boat means tight quarters and shared facilities—realistic only for couples comfortable with close quarters or families with younger children. If your group values personal space, plan for 6–8 people maximum.

Frequently asked questions
Can Classic be rented with or without a skipper?
You can charter Classic bareboat (you skipper) if you hold the relevant sailing licence, or hire a professional skipper alongside the yacht. The choice is yours when you request the quote.
What sailing licence do I need to charter Classic?
Bareboat charter typically requires a recognised sailing licence (RYA Day Skipper, ICC, ASA, or equivalent) plus a VHF radio licence. The exact requirements depend on the country of charter — we confirm with the operator when you enquire.
What's included in the charter price?
The charter fee covers the yacht, standard equipment, and insurance for the dates booked. Tourist tax, transit log (final cleaning + bed linen), fuel, food, marina fees during the trip, and any optional extras (skipper, paddle board, etc.) are normally extra and paid at the base.
What additional costs should I expect at the base?
Typical mandatory extras are the transit log (often €200–€350), tourist tax (a small per-person-per-day fee), and a refundable security deposit (often €1,500–€5,000 depending on the yacht). Optional extras like a skipper, hostess, paddle board, or early check-in are listed on the quote.
How does the security deposit work?
The deposit is held by the operator at check-in (usually card pre-authorisation) and refunded after check-out if the yacht is returned without damage. Many operators offer a deposit-waiver insurance product that reduces the held amount in exchange for a smaller non-refundable premium.
Can I cancel my charter booking?
Cancellation terms vary by operator. Most allow cancellation with a full refund if requested more than 60–90 days before the start date, with progressive penalties closer to departure. Some operators offer a flexible-cancellation insurance product when you book.
Is the yacht insured?
Yes — every yacht is insured by the operator against damage and third-party liability. The insurance covers the yacht itself; personal effects and trip cancellation are not covered and are worth insuring separately.
What documents do I need to bring?
You'll need your passport, sailing licence (if chartering bareboat), VHF radio licence, and proof of payment. The operator will send a check-in form ahead of time covering crew details and any special requests.
What payment methods are accepted?
Charter fees are normally paid by bank transfer in advance (often a 50% deposit at booking, balance 30 days before charter). On-base extras are usually paid by card or in cash.
