About this yacht
NEW SAILS 2024
SailChecker Expert View

Perfect starter cruiser The Oceanis 38.1 is an excellent choice if you're new to bareboat sailing or want a manageable boat that still feels spacious. At 11.1 metres, she's forgiving to handle yet comfortable enough for a proper week away with friends or family.

Smart practical touches You get the essentials that matter: autopilot for those longer passages, a chart plotter to keep you honest, and shade options (sprayhood and bimini) that make anchoring in the Med genuinely enjoyable rather than a sunbake. The teak cockpit is a nice detail that speaks to decent build quality.

Solid value proposition At a 2017 model with three cabins sleeping eight, the pricing appears competitive for a well-maintained Beneteau in this size range. Ultra Sailing's perfect 5-star rating across four reviews is encouraging, suggests they look after their fleet and handle client relationships properly.

One practical note The base location isn't specified in the details provided, so you'll want to confirm where LUCE is moored and factor in your airport connection time from wherever you're flying in. That said, Ultra Sailing's top rating suggests they're likely good at sorting logistics for international clients.

The marina & destination

Based at ACI Marina Dubrovnik, in Dubrovnik, Croatia. LUCE is operated by Ultra Sailing.

Na skali 2, Mokošica

Why this is a great starting point

ACI Marina Dubrovnik sits at the southern tip of the Dalmatian coast, offering immediate access to the Elaphiti Islands and the protected waters around Lopud and Kolocep; week one typically involves gentle coastal hops south towards Cavtat or northwest towards the Peljesac Peninsula, with consistent northwesterly winds in summer allowing straightforward sailing between established anchorages. The marina's position makes it ideal if you want to combine urban exploration in Dubrovnik's old town with short-passage cruising, though the busy charter base means the immediate anchorages fill quickly in peak season.

Frequently asked questions
Can LUCE be rented with or without a skipper?
LUCE can be chartered both bareboat (without a skipper) and with a professional skipper or flotilla guide. If you're bareboat chartering, you'll need appropriate sailing qualifications; if you'd prefer a skipper, Ultra Sailing can arrange one for an additional fee.
What sailing licence do I need to charter LUCE?
For bareboat charter of LUCE, you'll typically need an International Certificate of Competence (ICC) or equivalent national qualification demonstrating coastal sailing experience. Ultra Sailing will confirm exact requirements when you book, but if you lack formal credentials, you can hire a skipper instead.
What's included in the charter price?
Charter prices for LUCE typically include the boat, standard inventory (sails, safety equipment, galley basics), and mooring at the base in Croatia. Fuel, provisioning, and any extras like water sports equipment should be confirmed directly with Ultra Sailing, as these vary by package.
What additional costs should I expect at the base?
You'll generally pay for fuel (based on consumption), transit fees if applicable, and any provisions or supplies you purchase. Optional extras like skipper hire, provisioning services, or equipment upgrades will be quoted separately by Ultra Sailing when you arrange your charter.
How does the security deposit work for LUCE?
The €1,300 refundable security deposit for LUCE is held against any damage or missing items during your charter and is returned in full within a few days of redelivery if the boat is returned in good condition. The deposit amount and return timeline should be confirmed in your charter agreement.
Can I cancel my charter booking?
Cancellation terms depend on how far in advance you cancel and Ultra Sailing's specific policy, which typically offers more flexibility the earlier you cancel. Review the terms and conditions carefully when booking, and consider travel insurance to protect your international flight investment.
Is LUCE insured?
LUCE is covered by Ultra Sailing's standard charter insurance, which protects the vessel; your security deposit acts as your financial responsibility for damage. Confirm what's covered (third-party liability, collision, etc.) and whether you need personal adventure travel insurance for your trip.
What documents do I need to bring?
Bring a valid passport, proof of sailing qualifications (ICC or equivalent), travel insurance documentation, and your booking confirmation. If hiring a skipper, qualifications are less critical, but passport and insurance remain essential for international travel to Croatia.
What payment methods are accepted?
Ultra Sailing typically accepts bank transfers, credit cards, and online payment systems; confirm accepted methods and any currency preferences (EUR recommended for Croatian base) when you book. A deposit secures your dates, with final balance due before arrival.
