About this yacht
The trip plan
After having stocked up we leave on Monday in the late morning and return to the harbor of Marsala on Saturday evening. We disembark on Sunday morning.

The following is a rough program of the holiday, considering a possible appropriate variations decided at the time by the Commander for safety reasons or by shared choice of the guests.

Monday

In the morning we wait for all the guests to arrive on board, we stock up and leave by 1pm towards Favignana. After a couple of hours of sailing we will reach the island. We visit Cala Rossa or Bue Marino beach or both. At sunset we will have an unmissable aperitif and to conclude a dinner at anchor. Night at anchor.

Tuesday

Navigation of about an hour and a half towards Levanzo, the smallest of the Egadi Islands. You can get off and visit the Grotta del Genovese, a place of important prehistoric discovery. We then navigate to its western side characterized by a rocky coast, it will be the right opportunity to do some snorkeling and discover the underwater ecosystem. We will then sail alongside the Capogrosso lighthouse and reach the bay of Cala Minnola. By swimming we could reach its beach where a characteristic pine forest extends. After some relaxation on land we reach our boat. Dinner at anchor and night at anchor.

Wednesday

Departure for Marettimo, the wildest island of the Egadi Islands archipelago. We moor near Punta Troia, for those who want they can reach land and via a suggestive path reach the castle. Evening at anchor.

Thursday

We will see some of the over 300 caves of Marettimo, rich in stalactites and reachable only by boat. In the afternoon we set sail towards the island of Favignana. We moor and reach the village full of typical and local shops. Night in port and dinner in a typical restaurant.

Friday

We continue the discovery of Favignana along the western side of the island until we reach the beach of Lido Burrone. Here we remain at anchor and enjoy the sea. In the afternoon we continue along the southern side until we reach the beautiful Cala Azzurra. Dinner and night at anchor.

Saturday

Navigation of the southern side of the island of Favignana. In the late afternoon we will return to the Port of Marsala. As a last dinner we recommend a typical restaurant a few steps from the marina. Night in port.

Sunday

We are at the end of this beautiful adventure. Disembarkation in the morning.
SailChecker Expert View

Solid family cruiser This 2003 Gib Sea 51 is a well-established cruising design that suits families or mixed groups of up to 9 people wanting genuine sailing comfort without fuss. The five cabins spread across 15.8 metres give reasonable privacy, and the classic Gib Sea build quality means she'll handle a proper offshore passage if you want one.

Practical touring boat You're getting sensible cruising kit here, sprayhood and bimini for sun protection, lazy bag for easy sail handling, bow thruster for tight anchorages, and autopilot for those longer coastal passages. The outboard engine is basic but adequate, and the dinghy is essential for the Mediterranean anchor-outs Centro Italia Vela likely offers.

Good value proposition At zero deposit and with the Gib Sea's reputation for reasonable maintenance costs, this represents fair value for a larger bareboat that handles 9 people. You're paying for space and proven design rather than flashy modern features.

One practical note The 2003 vintage means some systems (electrics, plumbing) may need attention, standard for boats of this age. Before committing, ask Centro Italia Vela directly about the recent survey and any known quirks, especially engine hours and whether the bow thruster is genuinely reliable or occasionally temperamental.

The marina & destination

Based at Marsala Marina, in Marsala, Italy. Triskell is operated by Centro Italia Vela.

Why this is a great starting point

Marsala Marina sits on Sicily's northwest coast, offering direct access to the Aeolian Islands and the Tyrrhenian Sea's sheltered cruising grounds. Week 1 typically takes you northeast to Favignana and Levanzo in the Egadi Islands, or across to Pantelleria; these passages are 20-40 nautical miles with reliable thermal winds and settled summer conditions. The marina provides good facilities and provisioning for longer explorations toward the Lipari archipelago or the Tyrrhenian coast.

Frequently asked questions
Can Triskell be rented with or without a skipper?
You can charter Triskell bareboat (you skipper) if you hold the relevant sailing licence, or hire a professional skipper alongside the yacht. The choice is yours when you request the quote.
What sailing licence do I need to charter Triskell?
Bareboat charter typically requires a recognised sailing licence (RYA Day Skipper, ICC, ASA, or equivalent) plus a VHF radio licence. The exact requirements depend on the country of charter — we confirm with the operator when you enquire.
What's included in the charter price?
The charter fee covers the yacht, standard equipment, and insurance for the dates booked. Tourist tax, transit log (final cleaning + bed linen), fuel, food, marina fees during the trip, and any optional extras (skipper, paddle board, etc.) are normally extra and paid at the base.
What additional costs should I expect at the base?
Typical mandatory extras are the transit log (often €200–€350), tourist tax (a small per-person-per-day fee), and a refundable security deposit (often €1,500–€5,000 depending on the yacht). Optional extras like a skipper, hostess, paddle board, or early check-in are listed on the quote.
How does the security deposit work?
The deposit is held by the operator at check-in (usually card pre-authorisation) and refunded after check-out if the yacht is returned without damage. Many operators offer a deposit-waiver insurance product that reduces the held amount in exchange for a smaller non-refundable premium.
Can I cancel my charter booking?
Cancellation terms vary by operator. Most allow cancellation with a full refund if requested more than 60–90 days before the start date, with progressive penalties closer to departure. Some operators offer a flexible-cancellation insurance product when you book.
Is the yacht insured?
Yes — every yacht is insured by the operator against damage and third-party liability. The insurance covers the yacht itself; personal effects and trip cancellation are not covered and are worth insuring separately.
What documents do I need to bring?
You'll need your passport, sailing licence (if chartering bareboat), VHF radio licence, and proof of payment. The operator will send a check-in form ahead of time covering crew details and any special requests.
What payment methods are accepted?
Charter fees are normally paid by bank transfer in advance (often a 50% deposit at booking, balance 30 days before charter). On-base extras are usually paid by card or in cash.
