Damage waivier for reduced security deposit (up to 2 weeks - catamarans)
The Damage Waiver reduces your financial liability in the event of damage to the yacht, loss or damage to ancillary equipment, or damage caused by a third party during your charter. Non-refundable: The Damage Waiver is not refundable under any circumstances. The refundable deposit covers any damage or loss over the damage waiver amount, and the customer's total financial liability will not exceed the amount of the damage waiver and the refundable deposit. Coverage: It covers any loss or accident involving the yacht, its equipment, or a third party, including all risks of damage or theft, whether due to negligence or malicious intent by the skipper or clients. Indemnification: It indemnifies all parties involved in all cases. Additional Weeks: For any additional week of the charter, an extra Damage Waiver charge will apply, amounting to half of the standard Damage Waiver cost. The payment of either the Refundable Security Deposit or the Damage Waiver applies solely to one major incident at a time. Suppose there is a loss or damage to high-value equipment (such as an outboard engine or dinghy, sails, mast). In that case, the Charterer has the right to a replacement or repair, on the condition that a new Refundable Security Deposit is paid promptly upon receiving the replacement or completion of the repair.

SailChecker Expert View

Perfect for larger groups This 2022 Bali 4.2 catamaran sleeps up to 12 across five cabins, making it ideal if you're chartering with extended family or friends who want to split costs. The layout works well for people who value space and privacy without paying superyacht prices.

Well-equipped modern cat You're getting genuine cruising comfort here, solar panels, water maker, generator, air conditioning, and electric winches mean less faffing about and more relaxing. The autopilot and chart plotter take the stress out of navigation, and the sprayhood plus bimini keep you shaded in warm climates.

Solid value proposition A 2022 catamaran with this specification and guest capacity typically represents reasonable value, especially when you factor in the modern conveniences and fuel efficiency of a cat versus monohulls. The €1,000 deposit is reasonable and suggests transparent pricing from NorthSailing.

One practical note I don't have the base location listed in your details, so check carefully whether it's accessible from your nearest major airport, some charter bases require 2-3 hours' ground transfer, which matters when you're flying long-haul from North America or mainland Europe.

The marina & destination

Based at Preveza Main Port, in Preveza, Greece. Kos 42.6 is operated by NorthSailing.

Why this is a great starting point

Preveza Main Port sits at the mouth of the Ambracian Gulf, making it an ideal launch point for exploring the Ionian Islands to the west and the protected waters of the gulf itself to the east. Week 1 typically involves sailing north toward Lefkada and Meganisi or south along the mainland coast to Zakynthos, with reliable northwesterly winds (Maestro) providing consistent sailing conditions. The marina offers good provisioning and is close enough to Athens airport for convenient transfers, though expect some swell in the outer Ionian during summer and plan accordingly for the narrow entrance channel.

Frequently asked questions
Can Kos 42.6 be rented with or without a skipper?
You can charter Kos 42.6 bareboat (you skipper) if you hold the relevant sailing licence, or hire a professional skipper alongside the yacht. The choice is yours when you request the quote.
What sailing licence do I need to charter Kos 42.6?
Bareboat charter typically requires a recognised sailing licence (RYA Day Skipper, ICC, ASA, or equivalent) plus a VHF radio licence. The exact requirements depend on the country of charter — we confirm with the operator when you enquire.
What's included in the charter price?
The charter fee covers the yacht, standard equipment, and insurance for the dates booked. Tourist tax, transit log (final cleaning + bed linen), fuel, food, marina fees during the trip, and any optional extras (skipper, paddle board, etc.) are normally extra and paid at the base.
What additional costs should I expect at the base?
Typical mandatory extras are the transit log (often €200–€350), tourist tax (a small per-person-per-day fee), and a refundable security deposit (often €1,500–€5,000 depending on the yacht). Optional extras like a skipper, hostess, paddle board, or early check-in are listed on the quote.
How does the security deposit work?
The deposit is held by the operator at check-in (usually card pre-authorisation) and refunded after check-out if the yacht is returned without damage. Many operators offer a deposit-waiver insurance product that reduces the held amount in exchange for a smaller non-refundable premium.
Can I cancel my charter booking?
Cancellation terms vary by operator. Most allow cancellation with a full refund if requested more than 60–90 days before the start date, with progressive penalties closer to departure. Some operators offer a flexible-cancellation insurance product when you book.
Is the yacht insured?
Yes — every yacht is insured by the operator against damage and third-party liability. The insurance covers the yacht itself; personal effects and trip cancellation are not covered and are worth insuring separately.
What documents do I need to bring?
You'll need your passport, sailing licence (if chartering bareboat), VHF radio licence, and proof of payment. The operator will send a check-in form ahead of time covering crew details and any special requests.
What payment methods are accepted?
Charter fees are normally paid by bank transfer in advance (often a 50% deposit at booking, balance 30 days before charter). On-base extras are usually paid by card or in cash.
