Sail In Summer 2020

Before considering going on a yacht charter in summer 2020, identify whether or not your home country has any restrictions. Many countries such as the UK and the USA have restrictions and advisories against all but essential travel. This level of advisory means it is challenging to purchase travel insurance and flights out of the country. As of June 2020, the UK has an advisory of all but essential travel and a mandatory self-isolation period of 2 weeks upon returning (beginning June 8th) to the UK from abroad. The US has a Level 4 Do Not Travel advising against all but essential travel out of the country.

A yacht charter is a great way to visit a country and travel while also respecting social distancing. Even if you are allowed entry to a country doesn’t mean social distancing is not a requirement. When thinking about going on a yacht charter, you also have to consider if that country has any rules or regulations in addition to social distancing, such as wearing masks, or closures of restaurants, etc. This article is designed to help you identify and decide where you can sail in summer 2020.

Note: On May 8th 2020, the European Commission extended travel restrictions on travel from non-EU countries into the EU until June 15th 2020.

Greece has the perfect yacht charter destination for all abilities.

In May, Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis gave a speech on Greece’s future travel and tourism. All visitors are required to be tested for Covid19 and have to stay overnight at a specific hotel until they have received their test results. If the test results are positive they have to be put in quarantine for 14 days, if the test is negative they have to self-quarantine for 7 days.

From June 15th to June 30th, flights and foreigners can arrive at Athens airport and Thessaloniki airport. They have created a list of airports EASA and depending on which airport you arrive in Greece from you would either be subject to a Covid19 test on arrival if your airport is on the list (the same as before June 15th), or just random testing if your airport origin isn’t on the EASA list.

From July 1st onwards, all international foreign tourists and flights are allowed to enter the country at any airport in Greece. Foreign visitors will be subject to random testing for the foreseeable future.
