Sailing Jollies in 2021 Not to Miss
Are you interested in joining one of the great sailing events that take place in Greece, Turkey and Croatia in 2021? You are at the right place! Richard, the founder of the Sailing Jollies, promises that you will have the greatest time of your life, exploring hidden beauties.
Greece: 4 weeks in April 2021 and October 2021
Croatia: 1 week in May 2021
Turkey: 1 week in November 2021
The Sailing Jollies Story
In September 2010, Richard Rowe was asked by a small, reputable family business called Omegasail, if he would like to deliver a yacht at the end of the season back from Corfu to Athens for the winter. Rather than do it non-stop in the traditional delivery sense, Richard asked for a week to do the trip, turning it into a kind of ‘training holiday charter’… and so it all began. Rich is now an RYA Yachtmaster Offshore (since 2011) and RYA Cruising instructor since 2013.
The concept of the ‘Sailing Jolly’ was born out of a realisation that for those developing their sailing from Day Skipper to Yachtmaster, there often isn’t much out there in the marketplace specifically designed to help you get the requisites you need. Today, the Jollies and Omegasail joint membership is close to 300, with their bi-annual April run to Corfu, and the return in October, being extremely popular, selling out way in advance.
The April and October trips are run over two weeks, split into legs between Athens and Kefalonia (circa 220 nm) and Kefalonia to Corfu (c. 110nm). There is no set itinerary or agenda and a daily skippers’ meeting will decide on the destination. On the easier leg, we like to give people more independence once we know they are good, safe sailors, but on the longer passage, the yachts will go together for ‘safety in numbers’.
