The Randmeren features numerous islands which are ideal for daytime leisure pursuits. In Friesland you will find all the elements that will turn your sailing holiday into an unforgettable experience. The numerous Frisian lakes, interconnected through a unique system of rivers and canals, will lead you along typical landscapes with wide vistas studded with picturesque villages and cities. Start from Jachthaven Waterland, which is a marina located only 10 km north of Amsterdam in the historic town of Monnickendam. Monnickendam is on the shore of the Gouwzee, part of the IJsselmeer. This bay gives a good shelter for the prevailing southwesterly breeze. Within 2 NM you can find Volendam or Marken. Hoorn and Enkhuizen are only a few hours sailing away. The offshore sailor can use Monnickendam as a starting point for a round trip around the province "Noord Holland". Monnickendam is known for its smoked fish and historical centre. You will find the old town located only five walking minutes from Jachthaven Waterland, where there are plenty of small shops (Bakery, butcher) and restaurants.
